TLCA 35th anniversary (2006)
Messages from Recent Chairpersons, Board of Trustees

Tirumala Rao Tipirneni, Chairman 2000-2001

Congratulations to TLCA, one of the first Indian Cultural organizations in USA, on the eve of the 35th anniversary celebrations. I have been fortunate to have been actively involved with the organization since 1973. I have lots of fond memories to reminisce from my early years of association with TLCA. Organized and participated in the enacting of the first Telugu drama in North America (1976). As Secretary of the host organization (TLCA), helped successfully conduct the First Telugu Conference of North America in New York (May 1977), leading to the formation of Telugu Association of North America (TANA). I started a Telugu School in my apartment in September 1977, with me as a teacher. During my term as President in 1978-’79, for the first time Telugu Velugu was regularly published, as a monthly magazine. In those early years our number used to be smaller, may be because of that the dedication to our Telugu language and culture was more intense. We are seeing today lot more cultural participation by our youngsters with Arangetrams of Dance & Music, thanks to the dedication of the parents to our culture as well as with the availability of teachers. Thanks to the influx of the fresh immigrants in the IT fields since late eighties to early nineties, our numbers have grown tremendously. We have moved to 21st century and in to the age of IT, with a bang. TLCA boasts today one of the best community websites. Our budgets to conduct programs have also tremendously increased, with the generous donations from our community members.

I am confident that TLCA will be there in the next millennium also, successfully helping future generations proudly celebrating their Telugu heritage in the New York metropolitan area.

God bless Telugu Literary & Cultural Association!

Baburao Doddapanneni, Chairman, 2002

I am very happy to learn that TLCA is celebrating its 35 years anniversary on Saturday, 9 Dec 2006. As a man who associated with it for so many years, who has seen it growing, who has contributed a little for its prominence, I feel very haapy and proud to be associated with it.

I still remember those days, when we worked for making TLCA as a part of the life and life style of telugus in New York and several others from other cities used to appreciate what TLCA does. Now, there are more members... more young members..more ideas ..that make TLCA going is more effective and smoother.

I wish that members take community matters more seriously and do things to impact the community.... things to give back to the community, because we all belong to it. When community is recognised by others, it will be a great satisfaction to all of us.

So friends..let us do things that will help the community as a whole rather than some personals and few individuals.

Mohan Rao Badhey, Life Trustee

The Telugu Literary and Cultural Association is now 35 years old. During its life span, it had an excellent childhood, stormy teen age and prosperous adult life. In the past 35 years it has grown and become a prosperous cultural organization. It has progressed tremendously in its membership, literary and cultural activities by the hard work of present and past Executive Committee members and Board of Trustees. Me and my family wish the association a happy 35th and hope it will continue its progress.

Best wishes,
Mohan Rao Badhey, MD
